Our clients, retiring farmers from the South East, purchased their hobby farm in the rolling hillside town of Dawesley seeing not just the home as it was, but what it could be.

Reimagining the original design, they commissioned our team to open up their kitchen, living, and dining space, renovate the ensuite, main bathroom, laundry and kitchen, fit new cabinetry throughout, remodel the fireplace, and the pièce de résistance – Installation of hydronic underfloor heating throughout the entire home.

Renovation of a home and preparation of hydronic underfloor heating - allenCO construction

We met with Deanna and Craig where they shared their vision with us and we were excited to get stuck into it.

The scope of works was extensive, starting with the height of the doors throughout the home being lifted 100mm to allow for the hydronic underfloor heating system and associated cementous screed to be installed throughout.

The hydronic underfloor heating pipes were laid on top of castellated foam before concrete was placed over the top. The efficiency of the system was greatly enhanced by the inclusion of the foam, reducing the amount of heat lost to the structural slab beneath.

To warm the home, water is heated to 65°C and the heat pump system pumps this water through the pipes, transferring the heat through the screed and flooring which then radiates throughout the home like how a brick wall radiates heat after the sun goes down on a summers day. The flow rate is controlled digitally and is zoned to allow rooms that aren’t in use to be isolated from the system.

A 6-metre wall was removed to create an open-plan living area consisting of the kitchen, dining, and family room creating a large open space for family and friends to come together when entertaining. The fireplace was remodelled to create a cosy nook perfect for reading a book or the newspaper with a hot cup of tea as you look out across the rolling hillside.

Deanna’s vision for the kitchen rivals that of any featured on ‘The Block’ with crisp white stone benchtops and custom cabinetry, a large farmhouse sink with modern farmhouse style tapware, and 900mm stainless steel under bench oven with induction cooktop.

New cabinetry was installed throughout the home including the fit out of a huge walk-through wardrobe and a completely renovated main bathroom, ensuite and laundry with stone benchtops, new glass screens, new bath, and tapware and accessories in a complementary modern “Hamptons” style providing an everyday luxury that is sure to never grow old.

To complete the home, we also installed new flooring, skirting boards and architraves throughout, removed unwanted windows which were bricked up externally and framed out internally, installed a new lighting system, removed the old hot water service and associated gas infrastructure, and installed a new energy efficient Stiebel-Eltron hot water system. On completion, allenCO construction painted the entire home.

We thank Deanna and Craig for choosing allenCO Construction to bring their ideas to life and create their dream home.

And we are sure you’ll agree, the results of this project really do speak for themselves.
